Creekside Restaurant - Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel and Towers - Cobone Deal Review

My whole family loves to eat, in, out, it doesn't matter... love it even more when it's a gift and that's exactly what we got... a seafood and Japanese buffet dinner for two!

We love, love, love it.

Our booking was initially at 7PM but we had to move it to 8PM due to time constraint and distance... even arrived 30 minutes late... so we're really bad... we're thinking we're probably going to be turned away for being late... in my head I thought... oh well... darn but what can one do?

A little embarrassed, we informed the reception that we have a booking and we'd prefer to sit outside since the weather was amazing. We only waited a little over three minutes and we were showed to our table.

On our way to our table, we're amazed by the spread of food. It was exciting, I was salivating way before we started digging into our plates.

It's always been a habit to literally survey the stations before diving in. When the attack plot was finalized... I went straight to the salad bar... there's so much to choose from but I zoom into, open mussels, cocktail shrimp, calamari salad, smoked salmon and capers, crabmeat sampler and edamame. They're all to-die for. I am definitely going to re-hash the calamari salad just because it's too good to ever forget!

Hubby's first prey were unsuspicious shrimp tempura... OMG, the batter was scrumptuously light and shrimps felt and tasted super fresh. Hubby fell in love so much that he went back to the station and took every single tempura on the serving plate.... no kidding. It's alright, serving plates are replenished all the time... it's like the robbery didn't happen at all. We helped him finish his loot though. Sorry, we are unashamed. We love food that much!

His next stop was the BBQ station. He chose his next preys from the fresh station, choosing mussels and prawns for BBQ was a really good choice. There were chicken and beef but seriously? It's like going to an Italian restaurant and ordering hamburger... it's just not right to be unfaithful to seafood night.

We started at 8 and finished at 11 PM. Never happened in the history when we actually stayed until closing. We didn't mean to. We did joke about it thinking that's absurd and we had so much fun munching and stuffing our face that we didn't realize the time.

How will we ever notice the time when there's a free flowing house alcoholic beverages? It's really amazing.

The dessert station is so mesmerizing that I feel a little upset with myself for not reserving a bigger space. What a shame!

Definitely will be coming back! With or without promotion... Yum-my!

The Agency At Emirates Towers

Although The Agency is probably most known for the wide selection of wines, I think I'm going to be a regular mostly because of tapas, pates and yes, wine drinking as that's already a given. The whole place is laid back, perfect for after work hang out or any other night hang out. I might even bring my kids and we can just relax by the patio of Boulevard while we amuse our emp

Last night, I went there for the first time with my friends. We were a bit hungry but we didn't want to really munch a whole lot of 'the usuals'. As we read the menu of carefully selected concoctions, it made us so excited that we wanted to order every single thing. But we knew our eyes eat more than our tummy, so we settled for "Cheese Fondue", "Tapas Platter to Share" and "Foie Gras". The French Merlot they served didn't hurt the lovely spread at all. It was just heavenly.

Cheese Fondue came in a bubbling pot with crisp white and brown bread for dipping. It was just beautiful. Every dip excites you like as if you haven't had the last few ones you already ate.

Tapas platter came in on a long wooden serving plate. It has crackers, walnuts, fruits, selection of cheeses and pork cuts. It went so well with everything that we ordered.

The Foie Gras was served with small butter breads on the side and once you put it in your in mouth, everything just stops. You don't know whether it's the bread that makes the combination Uh-May-Zing? or it's the pate' that makes it stand out.

By the time I finished my 4th glass of wine, I'm well fed, relaxed and really happy. I was with great company, we had an amazing chat, we reminsced how we all became friends and talked how we plan to remain great friends.

Three wines, one juice, one water, one Corona, one cola, Tapas Platter for 2, Foie Gras, and Cheese Fondue cost  AED 565. It is money very much well spent!

Sicilia at Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel

I have mixed emotions about this restaurant because there were dishes they got sooooo right and dishes they got sooooo wrong.

The prices are of course as you expect in a five star hotel so that's not a surprise, what is surprising is the level of preparation in some of the dishes and the apparent inconsistencies in the food.

I love Beef Carpaccio and there are only two places that I die to eat at whenever financially plausible, Ritz Carlton's Splendido Restaurant and a more affordable version of Radisson SAS's La Moda Restaurant.

Sicilia's Beef Carpaccio came as a disappointment.

Carpaccio is such a delicate dish and it should appear just that, delicate and exquisite. It should be paper thin to the point that after it's plated, one shouldn't be able to lift it up without tearing. It clings to your fork and reaches your lips with enough sensation that will tickle your tastebuds. I expected it to have thin shavings of good quality Parmegiano Regiano and probably a little salad, rocca perhaps with a bit of vinnaigrette dressing. You then grind a bit of sea salt and pepper or not, depending on your mood.

Sicilia's was nowhere close. It came a little bit thick for my liking. I don't know if I can re-plate it ten times without tearing but it was thick. It also came with parmesan cheese but I'm not sure it's Regiano. I might be mistaken or novice but that cheese was crumbling, taste a little bit old, don't know if it's still in good shape when they put it on my plate. Thought maybe they used a different cheese so I kindly asked for extra shavings of Parmegiano Regiano. It's a restaurant in a five star hotel, I expect them to have Regiano. It was the same crumbly cheese. 

I also didn't taste any balsamic vinegar so I thought that was odd because the vinegar though simple completes the dish. The worst part is, it came with 4 weird potato chips on top instead of a good green salad on the side. Definitely not going to order it again.

Come my main course which the maitre'd suggested and assured that I will love was another flop. It came on its own with no starch partner, no bread, no mash potato, no vegetable, no french fries, no accompaniment but a solo arrival that remained splot on my plate. It was some kind of veal concoction which for me felt like it came from the sea. SALTY! So I forced to eat 2 bites and gave up. They offered a replacement and I refused. I've had enough flops for the night.

My sister and nanny ordered fetuccine with some sort of fried artichoke. It sounds yummy and my sister loved the artichoke but felt the rest wasn't spectacular. And although the same order, my nanny somehow barely got veggies in her pasta wherein my sister got gazillions.

An Executive Chef has to consistently serve good quality food regardless of the pressure or shortcomings in his kitchen, that pasta is soooo not consistent. Even if it's the line cook who made the mistake, the sous chef and the chef shouldn't have let that get out.

Now enough bashing. Let's go to the lovely parts of the meal.

Their focaccia as an appetizer was delish. It's light and it melts in your mouth. It had a side spread which is lovely but now I can't remember. I promise the spread was perfect for the focaccia. I believe they were olives (ala pesto)... boohoo I can't remember.

My son's margharita pizza was nothing close to a fast food pizza. It's properly made, rustic crusts and all, it really was wonderful. While waiting for our main course to arrive, we actually attacked the pizza because it was so good.

My other son, ordered a simple pasta in cream sauce as a kid's pasta and let's just say the adults fought to have one more piece of that poor boy's pasta. In the end we have to order another one because it's just not enough. Simple, light and creamy... just absolutely delish.

Hubby ordered I think a beef tenderloin/steak. It was small but a piece of heaven. Just enough to make your mouth water and once I had a bite, I had no doubt in my mind that it's one heck of a dish. Had I have enough space in my tummy, I would have replaced the disappointing veal with that peace of meat but after pizza, pasta and a reserve area for dessert, it was wise to refuse.

Come dessert time, a lovely tiramisu which MUST be perfected by any Italian Restaurant. Sicilia nailed it and though it tasted very much like La Moda's without the wafer garnish, it's perfect. Why fix it if it's not broken, eh?

I'll still be coming back to Sicilia, definitely order pizza, kid's pasta, tiramisu and that heavenly piece of steak ... partnered with a robust wine... I'll be a happy gal.

    I take my reviews seriously albeit all the jokes in it... :) if you're a resto I did not rate well, it means you have to try harder ... hopefully next time, I'll give you a better review.
